Fifth Grade April newsletter

Welcome Spring!  With only 2 weeks left to the third quarter here at Times² Academy our fifth graders have been hard at work!  Many goals have been accomplished with still a very busy and exciting fourth quarter to come.  Watch for your child’s third quarter report card to go home on April 11th.

Both Mrs. Gaulin’s class and Mrs. Brodeur’s class continue with their fascinating exploration of the wonders of Africa.  Students are gaining experience in writing informational pieces about various African animals.  Resources donated by families which would enhance the study of this unit are welcomed.  You can contact Mrs. Gaulin by phone, letter, or e-mail:  MrsGaulin@cox.net.  Mrs. Gaulin’s class did a fantastic job on their candidate reports!  Students are well informed to be great participating voters.  Now students can use the research and skills learned through this assignment when eligible to vote in 2015!

Ms. Salman’s class is deep into the American Civil War in the school’s Blue vs. Gray unit.  The students will be performing a class play on May 22nd following the American Civil War theme in A Country Torn Apart.   Mrs. Gaulin’s class play Sixth Grade Secrets will be performed on May 9th.   Information on these performances will be forthcoming.

Mrs. Gaulin’s class has now embarked on the study of the Solar System.  They have completed their Flight & Rocketry study in which the students demonstrated mastery in the final assessment.  Next time you see a plane in the sky, ask your child how it got there!  Ms. Salman’s class has completed their science unit of Mixtures and Solutions and will be spending time this quarter learning about Food & Nutrition.

Pennies for Patients was a wonderful success!  Donations totaled $1,771.3.  We are very proud of Mrs. Gaulin’s class for their daily effort and involvement in helping to make this a success.  The students were actively organizing, collecting, counting and recording data.  Thank you to all who helped this drive to be successful.

 REMINDERS

Reading logs are due to your child’s teacher daily or weekly, depending on the requirements of the class.

Reader Responses are to be done after each completed book!

School Uniform Policy will be closely monitored.  This calls for black or brown shoes or sneakers, or a solid color sneaker on days 1 and 3 for gym.   Girls wearing a skirt or jumper must be wearing navy blue tights.  As always, shirts must be tucked in at all times, and only plain, navy sweaters or sweatshirts are permitted.

Thank you for your continued support of our classes, and as always, feel free to contact us at any time.  We wish both you and your families a safe and relaxing April Vacation.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Brodeur, Mrs. Gaulin, and Ms. Salman
