Mr. Conery    Mrs. Kelley   Mr. Lester

In Room 216, the students recently completed a unit of study on the countries of North America and how they compare to each other in regards to economics, culture, and geography.  They are now ready to travel further south to Central America.  They will be comparing and contrasting what they learn about Central America with what they have already learned about the rest of North America.

In science, the next topic for Room 216 will be Landforms which ties in and connects with the Social Studies unit.

The students of Room 216 have also been busy writing poetry, and have published their own individual collections of poems.  They have continued to practice their Math facts and are getting better all the time.  Mrs. Kelley has surprised her class with several visits to keep in touch while she is out on maternity leave.

In Room 202, Mr. Lester’s class is beginning their Science unit on water.  We will be measuring water in Math and observing the properties and behavior of water in Science.  We need a collection of clean, common household items, such as milk jugs, orange juice containers, small milk containers, measuring cups, etc.

In Social Studies, the kids in Mr. Lester’s class will be studying Central America to identify the region’s countries, landforms, boundaries, history, and culture.  During this time we will be studying hemispheres and globes as well.  We will be making paper mache globes and for this we need some old newspapers, and one or two 1# bags of flour.  An old T-shirt might be useful for the real hands-on types (you know if yours is!!)

Across the hall in Room 210, Mr. Conery’s students will be continuing their unit on North America with a focus now on the United States, Canada, and Mexico.  They will be doing more research on the country they’ve been assigned to, and they will be producing an informational essay on that country.

We have been working hard in Math, focusing right now on two-digit multiplication, fractions, and decimals.

The students in Room 210 have completed the science unit on the Physics of Sound and will be moving on to the Structures of Life unit.
