We hope all is well at home.  It’s hard to believe that the end of the year is upon us!  This school year has flown by.  First grade still has many things to wrap-up.  As we conclude our Australia unit in Social Studies, we will be revisiting our Citizenship unit that was introduced in September.  This important unit of study reinforces positive social interaction and following directions/rules.  For our last author study of the year we will be reading the Henry and Mudge series by Cynthia Rylant.  Henry and his big dog Mudge embark on various adventures that will delight and engage the students.  We will also complete various follow-up activities related to these stories.

In addition, our students are nearing the end of our Math curriculum.  They will continue to practice their math facts and problem-solving strategies.  Many students have already mastered various addition and subtraction facts.  They have done a wonderful job! 

Ms. Gauthier’s and Mrs. Kerfoot’s classes will be performing a play on June 12^th.  We will be sending home an invitation very shortly with more information.  We are in the process of deciding what time the play will be held.  Continue to check your child’s homework folder for more information.

REMINDER:

It is very important that you continue to read daily with your child over the summer break.  It would also help if you encourage them to practice their math-fact flash cards.  Students will take them home at the end of the year.  Please reinforce what they have learned this year in order to prevent summer regression.
