To Unite, Educate, and Succeed in the areas of Engineering, Mathematics, Science, and Technology

Dear First Grade
Families,
It
is hard to believe that we have begun the third quarter of the school
year! The first graders will
be doing some exciting things this quarter. On February 29th
we have our field trip to the Veteran’s Memorial Auditorium.
We will be seeing “Seussical the Musical” to enrich our study of
the author, Dr. Seuss. The
musical features the characters and stories from his books.
The children have to wear their uniform to the play and they will
be back at school by lunchtime.
The new Social Studies
unit we are studying is “The History of Family Life”.
In this unit the students will learn how technology has changed
our lives for the better.
The students will be looking at pictures and reading books that show
objects and people from the past and the present.
We will be comparing these things and discussing how technology
has affected our lives through the years.
Talk to your children at home about the things you used at home
and at school when you were a child.
It’s amazing how much technology has changed!
In math, the first
graders have learned to tell time to the hour and how to count by 2’s
and 10’s. The students also
know how to count dimes and pennies.
For a home activity, grab a handful of dimes and pennies and have
them tell you how much money there is.
You could also ask them to show you an amount of money using only
dimes and pennies.
Reinforcement at home is always beneficial for the children.
